Four Women Writing
Jennifer Compton, who delights in bringing the page to the stage, will read from ‘the moment, taken’ (Recent Work Press, 2021) alongside award-winning poet Gayelene Carbis and author of ‘I Have Decided to Remain Vertical.’. Esther Ottaway (TAS) illuminates her own hidden autism and that of girls and women, sharing poems from ‘Intimate, low-voiced, delicate things’ (2022). Thuy On, author of Decadence (UWAP, 2022), deftly muses on language, literature and love.“With unflinching honesty, piercing insight and formal ingenuity, Ottaway’s language blows apart the myths to clear a space for grief, solidarity and beauty. Be prepared to be shaken and embraced.”
– Andy Jackson on Esther Ottaway
“Funny, clever and keenly observed, Decadence is a profound musing on literature and language, that deftly skewers the would-be gatekeepers of verse. With this second collection, Thuy On has cemented herself as a vibrant, unique and captivating new voice in Australian poetry.”– Maxine Clarke on Thuy On
Poetica October 2023 will be livestreamed on October 17, Tuesday, 8pm. Livestream playback will be available for 72 hours.
