The Melanin Monologues- Melbourne Fringe

themelaninmonologues

Event Date: 13 September 2019
Author / Presenters: Charlotte Sareño Raymond

How many stories have gone untold? How do we process our own pain, healing, disconnection and growth?
How do we celebrate our love, joys and triumphs? The time has come for us to no longer be a voice to the voiceless but to pass the mic to those who have not been given a chance to speak. How do you handle tragedy? Do your family know you’re queer? How do you discuss mental health? Where do you feel like home?

These are the questions that are so often asked but only a few are given the chance to answer. In a world were the voices of people of colour are often silenced, where stories of hope and tragedy are largely unnoticed, this works gathers interviews from 100 South Asian individuals of all genders, sexualities, abilities, and experiences about the dialogues they feel they have not been given a chance to have.

Performed by a cast of South Asian performers Malith Jay, Rue Tunga, Dlipreet Kaur Taggar, and Anushki De Cruze, and featuring the poetic works of Sri Lankan- Filipino Melbourne-based poet Charlotte Sareño Raymond this is a chance to hear what has not been heard before - this is 'The Melanin Monologues.'

This event takes place at the Melbourne Fringe Hub, ETU Ballroom (Trades Hall) at 54 Victoria St, Carlton
for a one night only event Sep 13 6:30pm.

The venue is wheelchair accessible, and the show will be Auslan interpreted with open captions.
