Breaking and Entering: The Next Chapter Writers’ Scheme
The Wheeler Centre
The Wheeler Centre’s Next Chapter writers’ scheme is changing the Australian publishing landscape by providing a foot in the door for writers who have historically been overlooked by the industry.
In this panel discussion, inaugural Next Chapter recipient Ennis Ćehić, whose recently released short collection Sadvertising was developed as part of the scheme, and current participants Jumaana Abdu, Luke Patterson and Josie/Jocelyn Deane, will explore the ways contemporary emerging writers are making the most of opportunities to break down barriers and challenge the conventions of traditional Australian publishing.
The discussion will be hosted by Fiona Wright, poet and author of the essay collections Small Acts of Disappearance and The World Was Whole, and 2021 Next Chapter judge.
Presented in partnership with Sydney Writers’ Festival
