AutoCannibal

TheatreWorks

Event Date: 10 July 2019 to 21 July 2019
Author / Presenters: Presented by Theatre Works and Oozing Future

Why do we do things that we know are bad for us?

Addiction, obesity, corruption, over-consumption. On all fronts homo sapiens seem to be intent on wiping themselves out through perplexingly myopic decision making.

In the aftermath of an apocalyptic social collapse, one person survives – but he’s still hungry…

Drawing together elements of circus, performance art, BDSM culture and clowning, AutoCannibal is an experimental new work of solo physical theatre that explores ideas of resource depletion, environmental exhaustion and social decay through the metaphor of the performers body.

What will we eat when we’ve consumed it all? Ourselves.

"There’s an endearing way to Jones’ cartoonish physicality, echoing the pathos of Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp and the frustrated desires of Tom & Jerry’s Tom Cat, and he’s often met with uncontrollable laughter from the peanut gallery."

★★★★ JENNY VALENTISH, THE GUARDIAN

"AutoCannibal is an imaginative hybrid performance, crawling with dark and scintillating ideas."

CAMERON WOODHEAD, THE AGE

"Aesthetically AutoCannnical was incredible. The visuals alone were in a league of their own."

AIDAN JOHNSON, POP CULTURE-Y

"Original, bold and disturbingly amusing, AutoCannibal is must-see physical theatre."

LOIS MASKIELL, THEATRE PRESS

"Make no mistake, this is a work of great potential, performed by a skilled and immensely likeable performer, under the direction of a clowning expert. It’s an experiment worth witnessing."

TIM BYRNE, TIME OUT
