Golden Shield

Melbourne Theatre Company

Event Date: 28 August 2018 05:00 PM

‘A debut with blockbuster appeal …
an explosive mix of action, seduction, intrigue and courtroom drama.’
The Age

‘Can you actually win this case?’

Julie Chen is a fearless young lawyer leading a class action against a Silicon Valley tech giant in a bid to expose their cosy collusion with the Chinese Government. Sitting somewhere between The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Good Wife, Golden Shield is a globetrotting legal thriller that charts the personal cost of fighting for justice in the face of a ruthless super-power.

This disarmingly funny and remarkably timely new play marks the MTC debut of an extraordinary young writer, Anchuli Felicia King, and the first of MTC’s thrilling NEXT STAGE commissions to be produced for the stage.

This World Premiere production will be directed by Sarah Goodes (Switzerland), featuring Nicholas Bell (North by Northwest), Jing-Xuan Chan (Hungry Ghosts), Josh McConville (The Sublime) and Yuchen Wang (Little Emperors).

Actor Jing-Xuan Chan discusses the upcoming world premiere of Anchuli Felicia King’s Golden Shield.

Commissioned through MTC’s NEXT STAGE Writers’ Program with the support of our Playwrights Giving Circle Donors, The Ian Potter Foundation, The Myer Foundation, Malcolm Robertson Foundation and The University of Melbourne.
