Sisters in Crime

Murders, infidelity, custody disputes, abductions and incarcerations can bring domestic living to boiling point, making the home an unsafe place to be – especially for women and children. Together, host Vikki Petraitis and authors Anne Buist, Megan Norris and Emily Webb will compare and contrast the approaches taken by novelists and true crime authors to physical and psychological forms of domestic violence.

Anne Buist is a leading perinatal psychiatrist and author of the Natalie King mystery series. A forensic psychiatrist, Natalie works with victims and perpetrators of violent crime, including abuse, kidnapping, infanticide and murder. Anne’s third book, This I Would Kill For(February, Text Publishing) focuses on the murderous passions aroused in a custody dispute. Megan Norris’s 30-odd year background in crime reporting and police rounds has seen her covering some of the biggest crime stories in Australia. Her stories have appeared in National Inquirer, The Mail on Sunday and US Weekly and have been syndicated in various publications around the world. She has written six crime books including On Father’s Day and Love You to Death. Her most recent book, Look What You Made Me Do: Fathers Who Kill (Bonnier Publishing Australia) won the 2017 Davitt Award for Best Non-fiction Crime Book. Her books have received widespread media attention including on A Current Affair, Sunday Night, The Project and Foxtel’s Crimes that Shook Australia. Emily Webb is a Melbourne-based crime writer. Her three true crime books include Murder in Suburbia, Angels of Death and Suburban Nightmare. Vikki Petraitis has been writing since the early 1990s and her best-selling book, The Frankston Murders, is still widely read today. Her latest book, Once a Copper (March, Wild Dingo Press), tells the story of Brian ‘The Skull’ Murphy, once known as Australia’s toughest cop. Vikki appears on discussion panels and at comic debates, and is a regular judge for the national Ned Kelly Awards. She is currently working on her PhD in Creative Writing, and teaches short courses in memoir and creative writing at libraries.
