Exploring Flash Fiction with Ian Nettleton
Norwich is a City of Literature
Whether you’re new to writing or looking to take time out from a longer prose project, flash fiction takes a relatively short time to write and can give a great deal of satisfaction. It can be sharp, pithy, surprising, emotional, funny – and there is a growing market out there for this remarkable fictional form.
In this half-day online workshop led by novelist and flash fiction writer Ian Nettleton you will discuss:
- What is flash fiction? How long is it?
- What does a good piece of flash fiction need?
- What is the difference between flash fiction and prose poems or short stories?
- Where does flash fiction come from/where can you gain inspiration?
The workshop will also feature a practical exercise where you will be asked to write an on-the-spot piece of flash, and to workshop that piece of raw writing with constructive and encouraging feedback from your group.
Ian will also offer advice and techniques on how to edit your flash fiction and where to take it next – from the habit of writing to the many competitions that are out there for you to enter.
