Honing and Experimenting with Style

This two-hour masterclass is for established or emerging writers who have been writing for some time. We will look at the two main categories of styles that sentences are written in, the additive style and the subordinating style, and consider what effect they have on pace and atmosphere in fiction, using examples from writers like Jane Austen, Henry James, J. D. Salinger, Virginia Woolf, and Ford Madox Ford.
By the end of the session, you will have gained new style tools for your writers toolkit that you can use and experiment within your own creative practice.
About Giselle Leeb
Giselle Leeb grew up in South Africa and lives in Nottingham. Her short stories have appeared in over thirty publications including The Best British Short Stories 2017 (Salt), Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, Ambit, Mslexia, The Lonely Crowd, Black Static, and Litro. She is a Word Factory Apprentice Award 2019 winner and an assistant editor at Reckoning Journal. She has led fiction workshops for clients including Writing East Midlands, NWS, and Nottingham University.
