Develop your writing skills and professional network with West Writers 2021

West Writers is an Artist Development Program for emerging writers across all disciplines to come together and develop their creative practice.

Over a series of seventeen workshops, participants will be supported to expand their understanding of the literary sector, build a strong knowledge foundation for their practice, create a community of peers with program participants and alumni, create industry connections, and explore opportunities to publish and present work.

Now in its eighth year, West Writers is an opportunity for participants to excel and take risks, learn best practice approaches and gain confidence to be a successful and influential writer.

Should I apply?

This program is right for you if:

• you are a writer across underrepresented in mainstream arts and culture. Footscray Community Arts Centre works with artists from Indigenous, culturally and linguistically diverse, disability and LGBTQIA+ communities
• you are an emerging to early-career writer (in first five years of your practice)
• identify as a writer – writers in any form welcome (eg literature, film, gaming)
• you are a local (we cannot support costs for travel and accommodation)
• you can attend all workshops (see timeline below)
• you want to build relationships with other writers and connect with renowned industry professionals
• you want to learn new skills through workshops to develop your creative practice or leadership capacity
• you want to contribute to social and ecological justice locally, nationally, and internationally through art, film or creativity

Submit an expression of interest

There are three options for you to submit your interest to participate in the West Writers program:

1. Apply in writing: simply complete the online application form;
2. Apply by audio or video: Pre-record yourself answering these questions and upload them via this link; or
3. Apply via phone, zoom or in person: To apply via these methods, you can arrange a time by calling 9362 8888 or emailing [email protected] with ‘Artist Development Program’ in the subject heading.
