SUMMARY:Troy-Anthony Baylis in conversation with Bryan Andy
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the release of Troy-Anthony Baylis’ Let It Bleed\, Troy-Anthony will be in conversation with Bryan Andy. \nTroy-Anthony Baylis is a descendant of the Jawoyn people from the Northern Territory and also of Irish ancestry. He was born in 1976 and has been creating works of art since 1993. His multifaceted artistic practice is founded in the process of ‘queering’ and unsettling ‘traditional’ ways of representing Aboriginality. \nThe artistic practice of Troy-Anthony Baylis has included performances\, videos\, paintings\, collages\, assemblages\, photography\, knittings\, embroidery\, artist multiples\, costumes\, installations\, parade floats and more. His work explores a multitude of themes including colonisation\, migration\, trauma\, racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, sadness\, reconciliation\, dark and seemingly self-deprecating humour and unbridled joy. \nOften employing a bold use of colour and typography\, the artist references pop-culture\, art history\, and queer aesthetics across a range of disciplines including visual art\, cinema and literature. In addition to art making\, their creative practice sometimes involves curating\, publishing writing and presenting public talks.

SUMMARY:Dennis Altman in conversation with Neal Drinnan
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the re-issue of Dennis’ novel The Comfort of Men\, he will be in conversation with Neal Drinnan.\n\n‘I prefer the company of women\, but I need the comfort of men.’ \n\nFirst published in 1993\, The Comfort of Men is about thirty years of love and sexual discovery\, politics and betrayal\, self-realisation and loneliness. Steven must come to terms with his homosexuality\, Hester will experiment with radical celibacy\, and Gerald is embroiled with the anti-Vietnam War movement. \n\n‘An Australian classic. Dennis Altman’s seismic novel gives a vivid insight into a hidden world erupting to change Australia forever … Altman takes us into the heart of Australia’s gay revolution with compassion\, wit\, and sheer authenticity.’ – Bob Brown
