Creative Boundaries & Saying No | Creative Mindset Masterclass
Meg Dunley
A common challenge for our creative work is that it gets squeezed out of our schedules. It’s not squeezed out by disaster or by anything we couldn’t, technically, have said no to. Instead, often our creative work is squeezed out by the accumulated weight of everything else: family obligations, social commitments, favours, requests that assume we’re available because we usually are.
This month’s Creative Mindset Masterclass is about understanding why our creative time keeps being the soft thing in the schedule, then building the practical tools and the mindset to change that.
You’ll leave with:
- A clear, specific understanding of what you’re actually protecting and why it matters
- Practical language for saying no without lengthy explanation or apology
- A strategy for managing the guilt that comes with protecting your time
- An understanding of how to protect your creative vision, not just your calendar
- Your writing time officially in your diary before the session ends
Your creative work is not a reward for getting everything else done. It was never supposed to be. Come and decide to treat it like what it is
1. The mindset shift
2. 5 practical strategies with interactive exercises
3. Community Q&A (15 minutes)
These masterclasses are interactive and engaging, not lectures. This one will be fun and you'll leave with practical tools you can use immediately, plus connection with other writers who understand exactly what you're navigating.
Each month explores a different aspect of sustainable creative practice: momentum through life's seasons, overcoming self-doubt, managing comparison, building courage, and navigating the real challenges of a writing life.
- Writers whose writing keeps being the first thing sacrificed when life gets busy
- Writers who feel guilty closing the door and sitting down to write
- Writers who’ve tried to protect their time before and found it doesn’t hold
- Anyone who needs to hear that their writing is a legitimate use of their time, not a luxury
