BIO
Candy Bowers is a radical mischief-maker born of South African political refugees. A true multi-hyphenate, Candy is a writer/ actor/ director/ comic/ lyricist and visual artist. A Nida-trained actor she’s made her crust writing and performing original Sketch, Musical Comedy, and Lyrical (hip hop) Theatre. Smashing onto the scene with cult hip hop comedy duo Sista She, Candy frequented Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, St Kilda Music Festival, Sydney Festival and Edinburgh Fringe (UK). She is the original creator of the award-winning global stage phenomenon Hot Brown Honey Burlesque and her latest afro-futuristic hip hop musical One the Bear recently played to over three thousand teenagers at Arts Centre Melbourne and Sydney Opera House. Candy’s screen credits include working as a field contributor and correspondent on Tonightly with Tom Ballard for the Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC), Get Krack!n (ABC) and Legally Brown (SBS) writers rooms, her own short-form series She TV on Channel V (Foxtel) along with various bits and pieces for Australia’s Comedy Channel. Candy is the recipient of Screen Australia and Australians in Film 2019 MentorshipLA Initiative, which attached her to Executive Producer/ Showrunner Peter Saji of Blackish and Mixedish (ABC-Disney) fame and the TalentUSA-LA program which earned her representation with Los Angeles based management company WRIT-large. Candy now spends her time writing for the screen between Melbourne Australia and Hollywood USA.
