Velvet, Iron, Ashes tour

Home / Events / Libraries / Velvet, Iron, Ashes tour

Join this free weekly tour in the newly refurbished Victoria Gallery and see highlights of the Velvet, Iron, Ashes exhibition. Velvet, Iron, Ashes opens up a new way of seeing our history and reveals as never before how our stories intersect. Find out how the armour of infamous bushranger Ned Kelly is connected to cricket’s celebrated Ashes Urn, how fairy floss is connected to Victoria’s Latrobe Valley electricity industry, and why the granddaughter of one of our prime ministers once wore a glittering velvet cloak that symbolised the Murray–Darling irrigation scheme.

If you'd like to borrow a portable audio loop unit before joining a guided tour or attending an event, ask your tour guide or staff in the Russell Street Welcome Zone for assistance.

For school tours, browse our range of programs for primary and secondary school groups, led by education professionals.

Tours are every Wednesday 1:00pm – 2:00pm except for public holidays.
Bookings are essential and can be done via the website link.
