Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow is a unique literary exchange between First Nations writers in Naarm (Melbourne), Wendake (Quebec City), Ōtepoti (Dunedin), Seattle and Taipei.

Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow has three stages!

  1. You will be commissioned to write a new piece in response to the title ‘Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow’. You can choose to respond to the words in any order and genre of your choice, or any of the words in isolation. Your deadline will be Friday 25th of July 2025.

Your work will be edited and then published in the partner Cities and finally, as part of writers’ festival Blak & Bright.

  1. You will then be paired (one Melbourne writer with one other City) for a unique online discussion series where you will chat with each other using the writing created as the starting point. This is in the style of the project we previously did called The Stories We Tell Ourselves.

These videos will be presented across the City of Literature network and finally as part of Blak & Bright in 2026.

  1. Finally, you will participate in a virtual international writers’ group as a means of connection to create new work. You will meet monthly (September 2025–March 2026) on the first Saturday of each month at 11am for 90 minutes.
You will be paid a total fee of $2000 for your participation in all three stages.
